Bennett Gap Trail

Bennett Gap Trail to Buckwheat Knob

When we started planning this weekend’s hike it was “6 miles”, we’d do a 6 mile hike. Shouldn’t be a problem because we have lots of 6 mile hikes under our belt. We’ve done a couple 3-5 mile hikes this winter whenever it has been warm enough to get out. Six miles would just be a good next step…. but then it became between 6 and 7… and then it became, “oh its actually 7.2, but we can turn around if ends up being too much.” Which I knew would be “if you make me we’ll turn back early.”

Final mileage 7.5. We made it to the top – which was uneventful – and back down again before the sun started to set. Bonus. I am against walking through new trails in the dark. Other J was impressed when we got home to find out how far it actually was.. good for him. Next hike we’re aiming at 7.2 miles. I’m going to try and get him to stick to that this time.

BUT all of this means that working out during the winter has a least kept us where we left off at the end of last season. So this season we should be able to regular 10 miles and occasional 12 miles with no problem. The goal this year is to do a 20 mile weekend camping trip this summer. I’m really be happy with 15.

The floor is now open to suggestions for knee or hip strengthening exercises.

I disagree

Standard

This bothered me… I originally posted something in this facebook thread, but deleted it, because really it is not my facebook so i did not want to debate the concept… however this is my site and i can say what i want to here…

Friend: A boy writes God a letter, ‘DEAR GOD, WHY DO YOU LET BAD THINGS HAPPEN IN OUR SCHOOLS?’ God replies, ‘DEAR SON, I’M NOT ALLOWED IN YOUR SCHOOLS.’ Re-post if you agree
Friend’s Friend Awesome
Friend: I love it. So true. That moment of silence they do here is fine…. but not the same. We used to always pray before games…. why was that okay but not in actual school?

1) It wasn’t “ok” then either. It’s never fucking been ok. Because it was school sponsored event and it was school employees that makes it sure as hell not “ok”. It can be argued, if the person who started it was not actually employed by the school that it does not violate #2.

2) SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE, prayer has no place in public school, period. Public schools are a government sponsored institution, therefore anyone representing said institution should not mention anything religious while on duty for said institution. Were they outside of school, on any other day paying with students, cool. Were they teaching a sunday school class with the football team in attendance, rock on. A football game is a school sponsored event and if you are being paid by that school it is not your place to bring up anything religious. End of story.
Thomas Jefferson

Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.

Greenwood High School

But attorneys for Greenwood Schools told us students actually voted on the prayer issue and decided in favor of it which amounts to freedom of speech.

“The school did not endorse religion! It hasn’t coerced anyone. It hasn’t done anything wrong! It’s merely giving students a forum for which they can seek and express their own viewpoints,” said Attorney Judy Woods.

But Judge Sarah Evans Barker challenged Woods argument suggesting that prayer still has a suggestion of deity and that the very school ballot suggested recognition, invitation or encouragement of prayer by the school corporation.

Video Here of the speech from the Valedictorian who brought on the lawsuit.

3) Sometimes I wonder if people have ever actually be the ones who sit down for the pledge of allegiance, the ones who cannot or chose not to participate. Have they ever sat there and thought about what is actually being said?
Every morning, when I taught, the class stood and said the Pledge of Allegiance after the morning announcements. I didn’t. I would finish anything I had to do in the mornings. Once one of the girls asked me why. I told her honestly, I don’t believe that “under God” should be in the pledge of allegiance, because it excludes so many people, because it was not written that way, and it is unconstitutional. This was one of the girls who participated in the Day of Silence. She stood there and thought for a second, and brought up a couple questions and went away thinking. Some days after that she stood and some she didn’t, but she thought about why she stood.

4) There are so many out there that are good without god why should one belief get all the credit. There are so many who are horrible with god why should one belief get all the blame.

Dear God,
You may not be allowed in schools, but that doesn’t stop you from getting in there and everywhere else. Don’t blame your short comings on other people. If you really existed you’d really be in the hearts of more people. And please stop taking the credit for good people with free will.
No love,
me.
